Assets in most cases are identified using uniquely serialized bar codes. These labels are mostly made of aluminum coated with anodize or polyesters with laminations. Actually, asset labeling reduces data entry errors as well as making it easy for identification. It makes it simple and easy to enter the data required.

These labels have changed inform of structure format and sizes as times goes by. This is due to the fact that people have adopted in labeling smaller, mobile or even less valuable assets. This has made people to make tamper proof, small and even incorporate tracking and tracing equipment in the labels. This has made these labels perform extra functions apart from identification alone.

These tags are no longer used for identification alone but they are also used for other reasons such as tracking. Due to advancement in technology, they have now come up with techniques that help in tracking system and activities. This makes sure that if the equipment is stored in the wrong place, it will be retrieved to its right storage place.

This is brought about by the effectiveness of these tags and the cost associated with labeling them is less as compared to buying others when they are lost. These labels prove important in terms of ownership disputes.

These tags also come with different color codes. This makes it simpler and easier to classify the assets or equipment that can be yours. They are used to separate between different uses and classifications of tools.
