Why Every Home Needs Stainless Steel Dinner Plates

By Olive Pate

Quality utensils are a homemaker's best investments for home maintenance. In India for example, many households have invested in the durability of stainless steel dinner plates. Able to make stainless utensils by hand, India prefers this material because it gives a polished look while being lasting for decades even with daily use.

Steel that resistant to tarnishing and rust was patented and manufactured in the 1900s. It was a great invention during that time because aside from being sturdy, equipment owners need not fuss about corrosion. Fifteen out of 150 grades of stainless steel are most popularly used. When it was first invented, armaments manufacturers benefitted most of all. Now, it has various uses from architecture to transportation and is widespread in the common household.

Given its durability and appearance, stainless steel sets are relatively cheap compared to other materials used for dinnerware. It is worth every penny. In fact, many restaurants have shifted to using them instead of ceramics. Ceramics as a material is heavy and difficult to clean and buss out. Most of all, once dropped, they cannot be used again in most cases.

Depending on the restaurant's image, many opt to use disposable utensils. These restaurants, most especially those who have decided to be eco-friendly, are finding ways to minimize waste. They have chosen this alloy-of-iron flatware because it is more sustainable than paper and Styrofoam. For the common household, dinner sets like these are readily available throughout the world at the local department store or through online shops. Newlyweds can start with a 12-piece set which consists of a pair of flatware and a tumbler. A small household can start with an 18-piece dinner set.

You can get a 100-piece set depending upon the size of your family; after all, steel that is resistant to tarnishing and rust can last for a long time. There are those, however, are concerned with storage space and cleaning up so many pieces which is why some opt to buy only what is needed. It is good to note that unlike glassware that is unsafe to be nested, stainless steel can be safely nested, thus opening up more shelf space.

Homemakers prefer this material most especially because of its resiliency. It is safe around children. If an accident happens, wasted food is just the problem. You can go pick the flatware up like nothing has happened. When buying, look for the 18/10 mark. It means that the material is made up of 18% chrome and 10% nickel. The quality drops as the numbers do.

Cleaning utensils that are resistant to tarnishing and rust is easy. A sponge and light detergent is all you need. You may rinse it and then leave it to dry. Avoid lemon scented detergents because they can damage stainless. This material is dishwasher safe too. A few reminders, though: do not crowd it most especially with silverware. In addition, do not include them in the hot drying cycle.

Stainless steel is the best material for a dinner set. It is easy to clean and maintain. It is made of a durable material, which is safe around children. Most of all, it is presentable such that guests will be wowed by its classiness and presentation.
