Nursing is becoming an increasingly popular career path, and as you look into the important role nursing plays in society, it is no surprise. As the number of nurses increases, the availability of quality care for many different individuals is also increasing, and this is a terrific thing to behold. The history of nursing is long and full, and as we look back, we are able to see the power that is held by great nurses of the world.

There are so many advances that is seems like maybe mankind is running out of ideas but in order to truly understand the way we feel it might be helpful to compare it to how people felt over a century ago. A century ago people were fascinated with steam power, perplexed by the idea of flight, and overwhelmed with what we could do with science.

However, the impact that can be made by a nurse who does his or her job well and who has genuine compassion for their patients can be equally great and will leave an equally lasting legacy. A great nurse, not unlike a great teacher, singer, or mathematician, has the potential to influence life and the world for good. Because of the powerful effect nurses can have, it is important that nurses are well educated, not only in bookwork but also in empathy and compassion. Often the best nurses have had experiences with medical problems of have seen medical problems of those close to them.

One of the major setbacks is restrictions from government or not enough protection of ideas given by the government. We all know that governing a large body of people is not easy task and comes with a lot trial and error. Another major inhibiter is the institutional road blocks placed in front of all of us when we enter the school system. There are so many pushes to teach children to conform and to be disciplined. In some ways we stifle creativity by telling kids that this is the right way and there is only one to make things work. At the same time there those who fight the system with their creativity and become an anomaly. There are other things that stifle creativity, from organizations hammering down the "nail that stands out" to people being promoted for being just like their boss.

She was also instrumental in founding the first public mental health hospital. Her influences on the world of mental health and more specifically, mental health nursing can still be seen in the world today. As the need for good nurses increases, it may be a good time to consider a career in nursing administration or nursing education. A career in the health sciences can be extremely fulfilling. As you consider your future, do not forget to consider the amazing prospects available through nursing school.

If you want to get your degree but are still worried about time restraints, family, and other obligations then maybe an online degree would better fit your life and schedule. Receiving your education online is a great way to go if you do not have the time or the means to attend classes.
