Sell Art With Postcard Mailers

By Matthew Kelly

While email use has become popular with business and personal communication, there are times when people want to receive paper mail. Although electronic mail may be faster and requires no postage for delivery, some things, like art, are better seen away from a computer screen. This is why postcard mailers are a good promotional tool for artists and crafters.

Finding a piece of artwork in the mailbox is not quite like receiving a bill. Clear images that tell a story can take the recipient away from those things that are not so exciting. Even functional art can trigger positive feelings that can balance having to spend all day at the job.

The days of using plain white or pastel postcards is history, as vivid photos allow the recipient to have a mental vacation. Seeing a picture of nature might think of a weekend getaway. An image with a realistic looking plate of food and a cold drink may inspire them to get together with friends. A postcard with a pet dressed up in a costume may have the recipient ponder getting a new addition to the family.

These are all positive experiences that are welcome most of the time. A real estate agent may send postcards announcing an open house with the interior of a gorgeous home that is on the market to a select group. One recipient may not be ready at the moment but keeps the card because this could change. Had the picture not been clear or the interior been average, at best, the card would be ineffective for driving new business.

Anyone who relies on visuals to sell their services or products should include as many of the best images they can find. It not only helps with promotions but an image can help with branding as well. A good, clean image will always resonate with clients and prospects. This does not translate the same in the online world, as some details may not be captured in the same fashion.

Although sending announcements electronically may cost little to nothing, the experience is not quite the same. This also goes for those who attempt to create mailing postcards at home. Few home printers can produce enough of the original details for multiple cards that will be visually appealing. This may work with textual documents intended for a small group of people.

What most new artists may not realize is that professional printing services are pretty inexpensive and can have some jobs ready within hours. Even if an individual is just testing out their promotion plan with a few cards, many services are happy to take on jobs of any size. Artisans with a small budget should find this to be great investment in their business.

The average printing service will use technology to give customers an idea as to what the final product will look like. They may also make suggestions as to the best images to use in this process and editing is done only to give clarity to certain aspects of the photo or artwork. Professional printers will work to bring out the best for their customers so they are likely to return.
