Are You Using Email Marketing? Here's How

By Jennings Ray

Where is the line between email marketing and spam? If you are taking the time to set up an email marketing attack, it is important that your message is clearly heard. Keep your messages interesting, and your customers will continue to read your emails. The tips that follow will help you craft an email marketing strategy that is both interesting and profitable.

When sending a email as part of your marketing campaign, do not use a casual font. You want customers to take your product or business seriously, and they probably will not do that with an uncommon font. Pick out a font that is well known, such as Times Roman Numeral, Arial or Verdana.

When you ask people to opt-in, let them know what to expect. Tell them what you will be sending and how often you will send it. People will be more likely to sign up if they know that you are not going to flood their inboxes with wordy emails that they have no intention of reading.

Identify and appeal to your audience. After you have accumulated some readers, try to get them to pass the good news about you on to others. Be sure to consistently include a link to subscribe in any email you send; hopefully, recipients will forward it to their friends that may be interested in the things that you offer. Your subscriber base will grow by itself.

Include special promotions only in your email marketing, like coupons or discount codes. This method of email marketing gives readers a good value for participating and motivates them to spread the word. You can promote this even further by creating a referral rewards plan, which will not only increase the number of subscribers to your newsletter, but also your pool of potential buyers.

Email marketing is a great tool for selling your product, but only if you keep sales in mind. That means that every single email should bring readers closer to buying. Share information on a brand new product, talk about how to use an older product or offer a special promotion.

To get what feels like a personal touch, occasionally try and mix up what your format is. For instance, if you usually send HTML emails, try using text format for a change. If you write it well, you can create a nice emotional connection between your company and the newsletter readers.

You can get lists of people interested in emails by offering a subscription option on your website. Make sure you also have this option located on your website so that they can sign up, as well.

Everyone knows that email filters are getting more and more strict. Graphics and other things included in emails are blocked out, so a reader might not even see what you are trying to say. Therefore, a good piece of advice is to use plain text with a hyperlink to your site.

Let customers know what to expect from the get-go. When a new subscriber opts in, send an immediate confirmation email that details what the customer can expect to receive from you and how often you will send emails. Filling customers in upfront can prevent future opt-outs and complaints and keep subscribers active.
