Shopping For Hard To Find Batteries

By Laura Jones

Most people these days will own devices that require batteries to make them function. Cell phones, laptops and wrist watches all require power sources and occasionally these will fail and replacements are needed. If your device is fairly old or a model that is no longer in production you may need to look for hard to find batteries and there are a few options available when doing so.

The two types of battery most commonly used in electrical devices are available to buy form a few sources. There are the throw away type which when they have run down will just be taken out and replaced with a new one. The other type is a rechargeable cell which can be used over again after being plugged into a power point and recharged.

When selecting your replacement it is important to check the polarity and voltage of the old one so that it can be matched up to the new one. Using a wrong power cell in electrical items can cause damage to the device that may not be repairable. If you are unsure about which one to buy your retailer will be happy to advise you.

There are two main places to find replacement batteries and some care is needed when making your selections. High street stores in your neighbourhood will sell batteries and there are also many web based companies that retail power cells. It is advisable to take the old battery with you when visiting a store so that you can compare it to the new one before making a purchase.

When you visit a store to buy a battery there will be many to choose from and if they do not have what you are looking for they may be able to order one in for you. Most stores will have some old stock in their store rooms and they may find what you need tucked away in there. For things such as laptops and cameras it may be easier to visit a shop that only deals with this type of product.

When you are shopping online it can be beneficial to get the product details from the old battery so that comparisons can be made. The internet sellers will have products listed in categories and each item will have a photo, description and price. Single purchases are possible but if your item is scarce and you find one it is a good idea to order extra ones and keep them for the future.

When you are ordering an item from an online site it should be noted that shipping charges will be added to your bill. Most items will be shipped on a next day basis unless you select an alternative delivery service. Always check your item before taking it out of the packaging if possible in case it needs to be returned.

After replacing a battery it is essential that you dispose of the old one in the correct way. Many batteries can be thrown out with the trash but some will have to be taken to a recycle point. Some rechargeable cells can be repaired and sold again and there are firms who will take your old one and refurbish them.
