Censorship And The Common Sense Alternative Media

By Miranda Sweeney

Living in the world today, it is easy for some to see why parents wish to preview movies and television shows before allowing children of a certain age to watch. At the same time, censorship has always been a controversial issue related to individuals of any age. For those who believe in censorship, the Common Sense Alternative Media website can be of assistance.

The organization's mission is to advocate, educate and rate programming for children, teens and families. The organization not only provides information on movies and television programming but also on apps, books, games, websites, newsletters, newszines and other publications.

The organizational website provides a great wealth of information. An "Editor's Pick, " section provides a list of what the website creators consider the best apps, books, games, movies television shows and other media which is updated regularly. Information on privacy and net etiquette can also be found on the site.

The Video section provides a number of reviews of movies coming soon to theaters and those which have already aired. In addition, individuals can watch a number of educational and advice driven videos upon request. These along with the parental blog make for a very active parental community on the website.

Providing information and insight on the intention of Congress to take over the Internet landed the organization in the news. In one document, it specifies a mission of the organization is to wake up the American people as to just how many freedoms are being taken away on a daily basis. This leak about Congress and the internet, whether true or otherwise, almost meant the end for the organization while somewhat proving the theory true.

One reason censorship, at this or any level is still a controversial topic. For some, it is a necessity to keep a child out of trouble at school. For others, it is going against the grain of every fiber to force censorship on anyone. When in reality, censorship is a practice lost in the light of indifference. A child is going to hear bad words at school and others at school are going to talk about the shows the child can not watch.

When it comes to children, the overall health and well being of the children is what matters most. Parents are responsible for seeing to it that children when in mixed company are well behaved. After the age of twelve, it is often necessary to determine fault based on a review of the actions and people present at the time.

When a child lives in harmony and balance with body, mind and spirit, most often the child is a healthy one. A child needs the guidance and direction of the parents to assure proper behavior in school and society at large. A plethora of documents on the internet can provide some great ideas on how to reward positive behavior while overlooking negative type behaviors in teens and younger children. Most who have rare but necessary parental attention and love grow up to be outstanding members of society.
